Alessandra Cappellino is a healthcare public relations professional focusing on intercultural communication, Europe and healthcare-related topics. She completed a Master of Arts in International Relations and International Communication at Boston University in May 2010, and was awarded the Department Graduate Prize for Excellence in International Relations.
Her master’s thesis focused on public policy toward HIV/AIDS in the Italian setting. She also wrote a major research paper analyzing the changes in the European pharmaceutical market since the creation of the European Union.
She has worked in government, non-profit and agency settings as an intern, giving her a broad understanding of the industry at work. She currently works at a specialty agency that focuses on healthcare. She also worked at Michael Rogers Public Relations, a lifestyle and beauty PR firm in New York, and was an education intern at the United Nations Association of Greater Boston and a communications intern at the Nassau County Comptroller’s office.
In May 2008 she graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in journalism, summa cum laude, and a B.A. in international relations, magna cum laude. She is an avid traveler who spent three semesters abroad, one in Italy, Ireland and the United Kingdom. She speaks proficient Italian.
In addition to her studies, she served as a graduate assistant at Boston University’s Department of International Relations. She spent three semesters assisting a professor with research and event planning, and worked with a professor whose research focused on environmental issues for one semester.
She loves interpersonal connections and relationship building. She was a resident assistant for four years at BU, helping younger students adjust to their new living situations. She was also the social director of the Boston chapter of Young Professionals for International Cooperation.
